Solarism Season – Midair Sir Jot Unlit Craze At Noon
In Stanislas Lem’s novel Solaris ocean tried to respond to the communication attempts made by humans stealing images from their psyche and embodying those present-future-past shadows as if they were real. In their site-specific installation in Merida, Rometti Costales use a similar approach to establish a dialog with the space and it’s natural environment marked by a strong presence of the sun.
Solarism explains the myths and legends in terms of the movements and influence of the sun. The installation Solarism season plays with various solar effects and their representation not only in pre-columbian beliefs, but also in the contemporary, globalized culture.
During the day the artificial neon light competes unsuccessfully with sunlight, acting as an overwhelming absurd object. At night it triumphs, taking over the role of the absent star.
